Elephants with/without train trip

Many visitors visit Pinnawela, because it is mentioned in every guide book. But these days there are also critical remarks, because the elephants have become a big tourist attraction and they are not kept to be brought back to their natural habitat. When the orphanage was created in the 70s the big reservoirs close to Kandy were under construction. Those elephants which lost their herd found a new herd in Pinnawela. If you like we will go there – perhaps by train – because you can’t come so close to these huge animals anywhere else while they are enjoying their bath in river. That happens twice a day.
